This hour-long talk explores what life was like for ladies a century ago through the experiences of a lingerie buyer for the Joseph Horne Company. Historian Sue Morris explores general downtown Pittsburgh department store history, features some fancy lingerie, and will take you on a trip to the Far East in 1920!
Sue shares her research on a Pittsburgh woman who worked for Horne’s as a lingerie buyer. In 1919-20 she traveled alone to the Far East on a buying trip. Sue will set the scene in 1920s Pittsburgh, cover Horne’s early history, general department store history especially as related to women workers, 1920s fashion and lingerie, and what this buyer would likely have seen and why on her trip.
