Volunteer
Whether you have one hour or 100 hours to give, we need your help. Volunteers are vital to our library! There are several ways you can help the library. You need to be 14 years old or older and really like the library.We are looking for self-starters who like to work fairly independently. You must have good people skills as the library is a "people place."
Volunteer at the Shaler North Hills Library to:
- Meet new people
- Learn new skills
- Feel good about helping in your community
Current projects include (but not limited to):
- Become a Friend of the Shaler North Hills Library - Ongoing
This organization has been a long supporter of the library. Starting at
$10.00, your membership goes to support our awesome summer reading programs
and programming thoughout the year. In addition, the Friends sponsor (2)
books sales. Currently, they are looking for new members to launch a second,
annual fundraiser - such as a Chili Cook off! In addition, once a core group
is under way - the community is in need of a home-bound program and assistance
with senior center dropoff/pickups. If you have marketing skills, people
skills, organizational skills, or enjoy "labor" the Friends need you.
- Become an active member of the Fundraising Committee -
Immediate need. A sub-committee of the Shaler North Hills Library Board.
Currently recruiting for self-starters, big thinkers, people persons, library
lovers and hard workers.
- Projects may include the August flea market,
- appeal drive, 65th birthday bash, and costume ball.
This committee could work in conjunction with the Friends of the Library.

- Adopt a Shelf - Ongoing. Learn or re-learn the Dewey Decimal
system and keep a shelf neat, organized and in the proper order! Set your
own hours for this type of work. Contact Linda Rummel. Training provided.
- Update our Day Care List and/or Community List - Immediate
need. An annual, short-term project that could be done from home. Call local
area day care centers to verify their contact information and programs.
Update the computer file and photocopy the results. Ideal for a self-starter,
computer literate adult. Ask at the downstairs reference desk.
- Wedding Tea/Fair- An annual program in September. If you
love weddings, crafts, special events, people, marketing - this is the program
for you! Contact Robbie Seibert or Joanne Rummel.
- Annual Jazz Extravaganza - This event is held in April
- Jazz Appreciation Month! If you love jazz, have great organizational skills
and love people see Marie Jackson.
- Weeders (Spring, Summer) - Literally. Outside, anytime
you want. Pull weeds. If you like being outside and can tell the difference
between a weed and a flower- you are greated needed. Contact Sharon McRae.
